Has injury, disease or a medical condition made it difficult for you to see through your cornea? The cornea is the clear protective layer of the eye and protects it against dirt, germs and other elements. It also plays a critical role in your vision. If the cornea becomes damaged through disease or injury, scars and discoloration can interfere with your vision by blocking or distorting light as it enters the eye. Corneal and external eye diseases can cause a variety of problems with vision and eye health.
Questions for Dr. Goshe for this webchat might include:
- What are the major corneal and external eye diseases?
- How do I know if I have a corneal disease or problem?
- What are the causes of corneal and external eye diseases?
- What are the risks of sight loss with these eye diseases?
Dr. Jeffrey Goshe joined Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute after completing a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the Devers Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Goshe is actively researching corneal transplant techniques.
